I keep seeing a lot of people asking about the new Vilano 12’6″ Inflatable Touring / Race SUP Stand Up Paddle Board. Looks like it is shaping up to be one of the hottest inflatable SUPs for 2015, so I just had to get my hands on it and give a test run out on the water.
While I have seen a lot of people talking about this new iSUP, I had a really hard time finding some reviews on it. That being said, people seem to expect good things from it, despite the fact that this company is best known for making bicycles. I didn’t let that deter me. So, keep reading to see what I think about this hot new Vilano iSUP.
The first thing that you need to know about this board is that it is not for beginners. This is a better choice for someone who wants to do some racing with their iSUP or just wants to be able to track through the water at a quicker pace. No doubt about it – this thing moves through the water very quickly! Plain and simple, it is FAST compared to some other models that I’ve tried.
The cost of this board is pretty reasonable for what you get. I think it is a very affordable racing iSUP. There are certainly higher cost models out there, but this one gives you a good value for the money.
When you buy this iSUP, you get:
- 3-piece paddle
- iSUP pump
- Patch and repair kit
- Carry strap
- Removable fin
So it is pretty complete package. And the carry strap is a nice addition since it makes it so easy to carry your board when it’s not in use.
The weight limit for this one is 350 pounds, which is really great for larger people. However, this board seems to perform best if you are well under that weight limit. I weigh in at around 190 lbs and I had a great experience with this thing. But, I’ve talked to a couple of guys who are around 300 lbs and they had horrible experiences! So, I think that the weight limit should be lower on this one for the best experience. I’d say if you are maybe 275 lbs and under then this is a good option for you, but maybe not for paddlers who weigh more than that.
Other notable features that you might wanna hear about include:
- Four D-rings for your leash, dry bag and other stuff
- Comfortable groove traction pad so you don’t slip
- Use the bungee for storage for your small stuff on the front deck
- 15 psi recommended for riding out there
- Inflates quickly with the good quality pump that’s included
Overall, I’d say that this is a pretty decent iSUP for the money if you are interested in racing or just moving quickly through the water since it cuts through it with a quickness. It tracks well – moves straight through the water for you. Balancing on it is obviously a bit more challenging than an all ’rounder board, but not all that difficult.
